The safari starts and ends in Kigali city. It takes you to two different destinations including Volcanoes national park as well as Volcanoes National Park. You are to enjoy gorilla trekking as well as wildlife viewing like the rhinos, antelopes, kobs and a boat cruise on Lake Ihema.
Day 1: Transfer to Akagera national park, have a boat cruise and an evening game drive
Drive to Akagera National Park which is located in the eastern part of Rwanda. The drive is 21/2 hours and upon your arrival, you will go for a boat druise on Lake Ihema to see the aquatic animals like the hippos, crocodiles as well as water birds including the shoebill stork, the African eagle and many more. In the afternoon, you will go for a game drive in the park after which you will retire to the lodge for dinner and overnight at Ruzizi Tented Lodge/Akagera Game Lodge/Camping. Meal plan: Full board
Day 2: Full day game drives in Akagera National Park & transfer to Kigali
Have an early morning breakfast and then embark on a morning game drive. You will also visit different lakes where you will see buffaloes and elephants drinking from the water ponds and view various species of birds like the Egyptian goose and the fish eager. You will lunch in the park and then proceed with the hills game drive where you will see; impalas, zebras, bush bucks, topis, waterbucks, oribis, topis, baboons, giraffes, cape elands and many more. In the afternoon, you will set off for Kigali. Dinner and overnight at Ruzizi Tented Lodge/Akagera Game Lodge/Camping. Meal plan: Full board
Day 3: City tour of Kigali & transfer to Volcanoes National Park
You have breakfast and then move out to visit the memorial sites that are scattered in different parts of the city. These include; the genocide memorial sites, presidential palace museum and the Nyamata church. Have lunch later and then transfer to Ruhengeri town just outside volcanoes National Park. Dinner and overnight at Mountain Gorilla Lodge/Le bamboo safari Lodge/Da vince lodge. Meal plan: Full board
Day 4: Gorilla trekking & transfer to Kigali
Wake up so early in the morning after having breakfast, the driver guide will transfer you to the headquarters for briefing about the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking. Start the search for the gorillas led by the rangers, once you find them, you are given 1 hour to interact with them as you take some photos. After the trek, return to the lodge and then transfer back to Kigali Airport to catch your departure flight.
